Iconic is thrilled to release "Batailles", the first print collection from renowned digital artist Professor Jun.

A first-ever artist offering, the Batailles collection are generative NFTs that include access to a matching 20“ x 30”, limited-edition, museum quality print, hand-signed by Professor Jun.

For the past year or so, I’ve been exploring one process in particular : folding. More precisely, painting by folding.

‘Batailles’ is the result of this research.

Collectors have the opportunity to curate a single Batailles, or a complete set of Batailles works in several ways:

1) You can choose to “blind mint” your Batailles piece, with the NFT being revealed after you have completed the mint.

2) You can choose to curate your Batailles piece by generating multiple expressions and then completing the mint function when you have one, two or three pieces you like.

3) You can choose to enter a raffle to pre-purchase a complete set of three Batailles pieces generated and curated by Professor Jun himself.

The decisions you make during the mint will have an impact on the “Curation” traits of your NFT(s).

Curation is at the heart of this collection, and the role of each party involved – the algorithm being one of them – will be acknowledged."

CURATION

  • The rarest of curative traits in the Batailles collection will feature the “ProfJun” trait. This is reserved for pieces that are generated and curated by Professor Jun himself, and offered to select holders as a three piece set.

The next curative rarity tier will feature the “Collector” trait and is reserved for those who generate one, two or three Batailles NFTs during the mint.

The final curative rarity level is the “Algorithm” trait. NFTs that are minted without being generated by the user will feature this rarity trait. This is similar to a “blind mint”, where you won’t know which output you received until after the mint process.

Iconic and Professor Jun have created an exciting user interface that will allow participants the ability to generate unlimited Batailles versions and then mint only the Batailles that you want.

You will be able to generate up to three Batailles pieces during the minting process, allowing participants the chance to curate a collection of one, two or three. You then mint them in a single transaction when satisfied with the generated outputs.

Because the generative code for Batailles lives fully on-chain, this extremely unique mint mechanic allows participants the option to generate the perfect, personally-chosen Batailles expressions before committing them to the blockchain.

Limited Edition

PRINTS

With every NFT purchase of a Batailles digital collectable, holders will have the option to use their NFT to claim a 20” x 30” physical print.

Every one of the museum-quality prints will be hand-signed by Professor Jun.

  • Every single print will be hand-signed by Professor Jun, adding additional rarity to an already rare collection.

  • Using a Giclee printing process, Batailles prints will be printed on museum-quality Hahnemühle German etching paper.

Due to the rare nature of this collection, access will be extremely limited. Guaranteed access to the mint will be reserved for Professor Jun’s Threads holders and Iconic’s Art Pass holders.

Any wallet that holds an Iconic Art Pass will be added direct to contract (DTC). Threads holders will need to enter a raffle to participate in the initial mint. The second mint phase will be open to all Threads holders.

Complete sets are also available to Iconic Art Pass and Threads holders by entering the raffle below.

Print

CLAIM

Batailles holders will be able to use their NFT to claim their hand-signed, physical print. You will not need to burn your Batailles NFT in order to receive your print, giving holders two versions to display.

  • After the mint, holders will be able to claim their print using Iconic’s print claim portal, where they will enter their preferred shipping address.

  • We will keep the print claim portal open for an extended period following the mint, allowing ample time to claim your Batailles print(s).

All print claim timelines will be communicated well in advance of any claim windows closing.

  • You are not required to claim your Batailles print.

  • Yes! You will be able to check if a Batailles NFT’s current holder has claimed their physical print by entering the token ID in Iconic’s claim check portal.

On-Chain

CODE

On-chain code refers to the programming logic and algorithms used in the Batailles collection and embedded within the blockchain. Professor Jun’s code governs the creation, variation, and interaction of elements within the artwork, dictating its unique attributes. Within Batailles, on-chain code written by Professor Jun operates as the creative engine, determining the rules and parameters that guides each Batailles iteration.

This code ensures transparency and immutability, preserving the authenticity and provenance of each Batailles artwork minted.

Professor Jun is a generative artist whose taste for coding began at 15 when he discovered programming through a programmable calculator. He made a name for himself in the cryptoart scene by sharing his thoughts on art with his "It's Monday Night" reviews. These reviews have been widely noticed and shared – including by Cozomo de' Medici – and have made him one of the most followed curators of the cryptoart scene. His recent solo release, Threads, was received with wide-spread acclaim, and minted out in a matter of minutes.

”Threads is a compendium of my way of thinking, interweaving metaphysical and mathematical reflections in an algorithm designed to represent them through minimalistic visuals. The algorithm borrows concepts from various fields of theoretical and applied mathematics, such as graph theory, numerical analysis and applied linear algebra.”

Outside of his artistic practice, Professor Jun is currently working on his doctoral thesis that focuses on high performance computing and algorithm design.

I chose the non-profit organization “L’École de Philosophie” because it’s an original and experimental attempt to share diverse knowledge: philosophy, cinema, theater, dance, literature, critical thinking, etc. I also admire the fact that this project is materially and humanely building a non-academic space that invents its own codes to think off the beaten track. It seems to me that it’s with this kind of creative experimentation that unexpected ideas and creative works can emerge.
