  • 2023, Osinachi, "Shooting: The Fire". Digital.

About Shooting:
The Fire

The piece is a reflection on the idea of "fire for fire", a concept that has led to wars across time between persons, communities and even countries. The soldier in the work is shown shooting a fire, an action that simply makes matters worse. The rooster is a symbol of the need for humanity's awakening to the fact that "fire for fire" does not bring about peace.

- Osinachi

Osinachi made Shooting: The Fire in 2023, during his residency at the Toledo Museum of Art. Like other works he made during his time at the residency, he marks the title with a colon to show this period in his practice.

About Osinachi

Osinachi is a self-taught digital artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. Born in 1991, he grew up in Aba, a city in southern Nigeria where he took interest first in writing, and shortly after, visual art.

He makes his work on Microsoft Word, and has been doing so for over 15 years now. His work explores personal experiences within a technological environment, and touches on social issues like LGBTQ+ rights, equality, and conservation. It has been exhibited at renowned galleries like Kate Vass Galerie, Galerie Nagel Draxler, and Room57 Gallery, among others; and fairs like Art X Lagos, 1-54 and Art Basel, alongside collaborations with prestigious auction houses like Bonhams and Christie's.

In 2023, he was involved in MoMA’s “Postcard” project. Additionally, he completed a groundbreaking digital artist-in-residence program at the Toledo Museum of Art, further bridging the gap between traditional and digital art forms.
